Guide prepares construction workers for changes to OHS legislation

WITH new OHS laws about to be made consistent Australia wide, this year’s Construction Industry Guide to Site Safety (Vic) aims to help employers and employees get ready for the changes. The new laws were approved as part of the Model Work Health and Safety Act on 11 December 2009 and will form the basis for harmonised OHS laws around Australia. The laws will be introduced to Victoria on 1 January 2012.

Pro-Visual Publishing, producers of the Construction Industry Guide to Site Safety (Vic), have identified the key features of the Model Act and highlighted where changes have been made to current OHS legislation. “It is essential that Victorian construction workers familiarise themselves with the new OHS laws before they are changed,” said Pro-Visual Publishing’s CEO John Hutchings. “By displaying the chart prominently in workplaces, employees will have a daily reminder of essential workplace safety information.”

Also featured in this year’s Guide are the topics of fall prevention, scaffolding and electrical safety and induction training. The Guides are produced and distributed free of change, thanks to sponsorship. This year’s Guide will be distributed to all commercial construction companies in Victoria and to members of the Master Builders Association of Victoria.
